I've partnered with John Lewis to bring you a beautiful long-lasting makeup look that requires minimal to no touch-ups throughout the day. So when it comes to choosing the right makeup that will last from day to night there's a few things you need to consider. 1. Its suitability for day: work, school, uni etc. 2. Its staying power: needs to last all day even through eating and drinking etc. 3. It needs to feel comfortable.
Written below is the makeup I used from John Lewis to create this look, as well as a few tips on making your makeup last all day.
FOUNDATION: for this you will want a lightweight liquid formula with great hydration. Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24 hour foundation is perfect for this. It is a lightweight liquid formula providing great coverage without feeling cakey. The foundation's added benefit of SPF 15 helps nourish and protect my skin all day while the smudge proof formula relieves the need for touch ups.
BRONZER: this is a very important step in my makeup routine because this really brings life, colour and warmth to my complexion, so no matter what I never skip bronzer. Typically I like to wear matte formulas and steer clear of shimmer, but the Guerlain Terracotta bronzer has something unique. It has shimmer pigments, which are ever-so fine and subtle by day but beautifully reflect the light by night. It's a gorgeous bronzer that gives my cheeks so much life, plus it smells incredibly fresh.
EYESHADOW: deciding an eye look that is suitable for day and night can be tricky. So as much as I love doing a full-on smokey eye look I need to reign it in so that it's suitable for daytime as well. A few tips I have are: no winged liner - this makes the eye look very wearable in the day time. No harsh or sharp edges. And when it comes to choosing a shade I say nothing too bold, sparkly or colourful. Shades I like to wear, whether its for day or night, are earthy tones, brown in particular. That colour really brings out the green in my eyes, however the brown shade remains subtle and quite natural on the lid. An eyeshadow palette that has a variety of earthy tones is Laura Mercier's Editorial palette. This palette has a mix of matte and clay finish shadows, all with super incredible pigmentation. The shadows are also very easy to blend out and achieve soft diffused edges. A small amount goes a long way.
MASCARA: Whether it's day or night I always like my lashes long, lifted, curled and jet black. However, I keep away from false lashes because I can not apply these for my life and they stress me out. A mascara that I've really been enjoying lately is YSL The Shock. This mascara gives my lashes amazing length and volume. I'm a big lover of YSL mascaras and this one certainly doesn't disappoint.
LIPS: There are so many different lip product/options out these days such as liquid lipsticks, lip tints, balms, etc but when I think of a lip product that will last me all day I immediately think of a lipstick. As much as I love my liquid lipsticks I do prefer a lipstick because, if necessary, it is easier to reapply. Now, when it comes to choosing the right lipstick for day to night it must be comfortable, hydrating and nourishing. It also has to have great colour pay-off and last a long time. I particularly love Bobbi Brown because she has some of the best formulas that are extremely comfortable to wear with incredible colour pay-off. Now, as for a shade that is suitable for day to night, I immediately think of a pink-y brown nude. A shade like this will go with many different eye colours and outfits, as well as occasions.
When I want my makeup to last a long time but still look incredible and on-point by the time I drop into bed, I immediately gravitate towards high-end products. Not that I can't get a beautiful long-lasting makeup look with drugstore products, because I certainly can, and most days I wear a mix of drugstore and high-end products. But when I want my makeup to last just a little longer and still look very on-point without many touch-ups, I find high-end makeup does an amazing job. Therefore, I'm sharing with you a few luxurious makeup bits that are perfect for a long-lasting day to night look.
